Today a neighborhood dog went to Doggy Heaven: We will miss him dearly.
Remember, if a dog were our teacher, we would learn things like:
When loved ones come home, always run to greet him/her.
Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.
Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure Ecstasy.
Take naps.
Stretch before rising.
Run, romp, and play daily.
Thrive on attention and let people touch you.
Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.
On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.
On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.
When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.
Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.
Be loyal.
Never pretend to be something you're not.
If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.
When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle gently.
ENJOY EVERY MOMENT OF EVERY DAY!

Today, after a long healthy life, a dear friend of the neighborhood, Patrick or better known as Paddy, passed away. He left behind the woman that has loved him for many years unconditionally. Despite his crooked little leg that was more of an appendix rather than a functional limb, Paddy never looked and never acted handicapped. He was a very special little guy, loved by all, whether they were two or four legged. My thoughts and prayer are with my friend andneighbor who is mourning the loss of her beloved Paddy. R.I.P. In Virginia we provide our pets with a three-year rabies shot. However, despite the bad economy, it is our duty, responsibility and prerogative to take them rro an annual check up...for everybody's sake. Remember, one year of our pets' lives is equivalent to about seven or eight of ours, which means skipping an annual check up for them is as if we skipped going to the doctor for about sever or eight years.

In this tough economy, as much as it may be hard it is essential to put our pet's medical needs (particularly their yearly check up and shots) before our morning Starbucks coffees and gourmet sandwitches--it will probably save us later from heartache, guilt and more expenses.

It's Christmas for everyone. Remember that pets have noses much more sensitive than ours: when you prepare your meals put some aside for your animal friends before you add a lot of the fats and strong spices and they will love it. Most fruits and vegetables are healthy for them as well, but remeber not to feed them the scraps from people's plates because then you risk exposing them to diseases.

Pets are willing to do many things for us, including waiting a whole day for our return from work; so it is essential to direct our first attention to them as we enter the home, just as we would do with our children. If you do have children, in most cases we are blessed with two arms that, with a slightly tighter squeeze, can embrace everyone in your home.

At the end of a hard day, when everything seems so gloomy, it is the moment you walk in your home and find your pet anxiously waiting for you that will turn your day around and make you feel what you are really worth, because to your pet your coming home will always be the highlight of their day and they will always make sure you know how much.

When you raise your hand to strike your pet, remember that he/she should never fear the hand that feeds him/her and more important, most likely your pet will never choose to bite your hand.

When you lose a pet, don't rule out adopting another one because of the pain when they pass away but rather rejoyce for the life and love both of you had a chance to experience, and consider giving that chance to another shelter animal that would otherwise never live a full life or experience a loving home.
